Stir-Fried Miso Tofu

I recently discovered Miso, a fermented Soya Bean paste.  And although I’ve not been exactly successful using it with other recipes, this one was definitely a hit.

Stir-Fried Miso Tofu

I call it the Stir-Fried Miso Tofu. The instructions are fairly simple – Just sauté tofu in oil until it’s lightly brown and then add miso sauce + carrots, corn and green onion. Stir until the sauce thickens and you’re done.

Tofu’s meaty texture + Miso sauce’s taste makes this recipe really flavorful. You can serve it over rice, noodles, or just pick up a fork and start munching. 🙂

Delicious vegan stir-fried miso tofu recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 tablespoons miso paste
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons  maple syrup
  • Pinch of salt & pepper
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 250 gm. / 8 oz. firm tofu cubed into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup steamed corn
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Combine miso paste, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, maple syrup, salt, pepper, and hot water in a medium mixing bowl and mix well until the paste is completely dissolved. Set aside.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat. Add sesame oil. 
  3. Once it's hot, add tofu and sauté until all 4 sides are light brown.
  4. Add the miso sauce. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the sauce thickens a bit.
  5. Next add carrots, corn and green onions. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions + toasted sesame. Your miso tofu is ready!

Most of the packaged miso paste are already salted. So make sure you give them a little taste before adding salt.
